calling all readers!

Dear friends, I come to you today in need of either your own personal insight/experience or your I-heard-it-through-the-grapevine wisdom. Are you up for the challenge?? Good! Because if I have to change one more set of pajamas and bedding because my sweet little boy leaked (yes I mean tee-tee'd!!) right out of his diaper, overnight, to saturate everything within a 9 to 10 inch radius of his body, I'm going to buy stock in Tide laundry detergent.

He's currently in a size 3 diaper. So I bought size 4 for him to sleep in. Maybe I didn't buy the best brand? So... this is where you come in. What brand of diapers (particularly for overnight protection) do you use? What other suggestions do you have? Hmmm?

I know we all have tricks. We're either moms, or we've babysat, or we've got some sort of child care experience under our belts. So speak up! Share your knowledge. And while you're at it, splice in some tricks that get children to eat from something other than a bottle, with substance more than just formula/cereal. We have an occupational therapist coming next week to evaluate Ethan, since he's a candidate for early childhood intervention - and apparently they are going to show us how to teach Ethan to eat "big boy" foods - however, he's quite stubborn, so we'll see what happens. In the meantime, your hints and tips could be quite helpful.

So either email me (kasey_krawiec@yahoo.com), or leave a comment below.

Oh, and one last thing. If any of you happen to know the secret to making calories disappear from items such as cheesecake and french fries (without compromising the taste, of course), then it is highly important that you share this first and foremost.

Not sure what diapers you use but when my boy was still in diapers Luvs was the ONLY diaper to work for night time and I tried them all!! My girls was pampers. I think every child is different so just trial and error! Oh and when you find out about the secret with cheesecake by all means please let me know!!!

My daughters use "huggies overnight" on their babies.

We are a Huggies family here, too. With 4 boys, it is the only brand I trust not to leak. BUT, I have discovered that my boys outgrow the length of the diaper (front to back) before they outgrow the weight. So, many times I buy two sizes of diapers. The regular size for daytime use (when they are changed more frequently) and the next larger size for night time use. I know this is kind of a simple thing, but also make sure his little parts are pointed down, not up. My husband learned first-hand how much pee comes over the top of a diaper when he forgot to check the position. :) Huggies also makes an overnight diaper that I think starts at size 4 that we ended up using with my oldest for the very same reason you are having with Ethan.

Good luck!!! And clue me in to the french fries if you find a calorie-free variety! :)

I will also vouch for Luvs. My daughter has been in them for over a year and has never leaked at night or during the day. Before Luvs she used Huggies and we never had any leaks with them either. We only switched because Luvs are cheaper.

Many moons ago, wise grasshopper used Huggies Overnights on girl babies.

The secret to calorie-less fries and cheesecake? Take one of the over night diapers...stretch it across your face like a surgical mask and cut a quarter inch hole in the mouth area. Consume as much cheesecake and fries as you can get through the hole. Calories will be cut at least in half. :)

Huggies overnight diapers are the best!

As for fat and calories, my personal theory is that after you have consumed a certain amount in a 24 hour period, then your body just doesn't absorb anymore.

Scientifically unproven, but it works for me:)

If you don't want to buy the expensive, overnight diapers, you can do a diaper doubler. Just use an old fashioned cloth diaper (not one of the new, fancy, button cloth diapers--just the ones that you might use as a burp cloth), fold it in half width wise and lay it inside the disposable diaper. It will help absorb a lot! It will be another thing to have to wash, but at least it won't be sheets AND jammies AND blankets. You can save up several days and just do one load. I would just rinse out my cloth diapers and put them in a small pail in the laundry room until I had enough for a load. Just another idea... :)

I don't think I have any more wisdom than what's been posted here already...I did want to encourage you by letting you know that pj's, sheets, mattress protector, pillowcase, and love bunny all had to be thrown in the wash this morning at our house too! And she's 2! Oh and wait until they can undo their pj's and you find them with no diaper on and they've gone on everything! When they make something for that, it'll be a miracle! --erica

I always used luvs and the only time I had a problem is when I ran out of luvs and used something else.

Only used Luvs with boys

We used pampers...every other diaper leaked.

Also, since he's a boy, make sure that his teeter (as my boy calls it!) is pointed downward.

Had the same problem with both of my boys (now 18 months and 4 1/2)

Start with Huggies Overnight Diapers. Be sure to get the diapers, not the pull ups. That should do the trick. I'm sure you already do this but make sure his "pee-iss" is facing down - especially for night. :) Also, make sure to kind of tuck the top flap (above the velcro) back into the diaper -- like fold it into his tummy so that there is no excess above the velcro tabs.

If that doesn't work, try a regular diaper or overnight diaper with a pair of rubber pants (old school) over the top of the diaper.

Or you can try layering 2 regular diapers at night. Put one on like normal, then put another one on over it.

Good luck. Let us all know how it goes.

Huggies overnight - also stop & shop used to sell diaper doublers (disposable ones) that I would use with the over-night huggies - I have two boys and I have to agree on the positioning of the pee-pee - must point down! :)
My boys were more long waisted and Huggies worked best for me.

I could only use Huggies, and my first boy was the same way. I finally bought two different sizes and in your circumstance I would put the size 3 on first and then the size 4 over it. That usually worked. Hope you get some good advice, there's nothing worse than having to change/wash sheets over and over and over. Good luck.

My son was a preemie, and one of our NICU nurses shared this: a former patient was a mom that had just had her 10th child, and this mom swore by Members Mark diapers and formula (Sam's Club); as far as I know the Wal-Mart version would be the same/similar.

My sister stands by the Huggies Overnight.

Also, as far as getting Ethan interested in table food, does he sit at the table while you and your husband eat? This has worked almost too well for us, as Max wants to have everything we eat instead of his food!

P.S. We have Home Intervention Teachers (Early Access by AEA) come to our home also, they have been the greatest help to us in assisting Max when he has had a harder time learning a new skill.

I babysat some boys last week that wore overnight diapers. I'm not sure what sizes they make them in. (these boys wore size 4). but their mom seemed to like them. she said if they didnt wear them then they would leak through at night! hope you find something that works!

Hi. I've never commented before, but been following your blog for quite some time. I learned about your little Ethan through a friend.

We use Huggies overnights as well, but I have a girl. I have a baby on the way and if it's a boy, all of this will be helpful advise for me as well! And for the comment/advise from Lorri...LOL! She made me bust out laughing with her calorie-less idea for fries and cheesecake! I love her sense of humor!
